Mobile Web Facts

  • In 2012, mobile web traffic increased 430%. In the 3Q 2012, mobile browsing accounted for 22 percent of all web traffic. And based on the trend line, that number was predicted to hit 27 percent by the end of 2012! (check it out)
  • In the 3Q 2012, Google announced that 50% of mobile searches have local intent (e.g., people searching for local products & services). Microsoft has indicated that 53% of local searches are performed via mobile. (source)
  • According to a Google 2012 ad study “Sites optimized for smartphone users make prospects 67 percent more likely to buy an item or carry out other desired transactions.”  (read these important findings)
  • The Bounce Rate for mobile traffic is MUCH higher than desktop viewing.  Referring again to the Google research “Meanwhile, 61 percent said issues with mobile site performance lead them to other websites to find what they’re looking for.” Studies show that mobile visitors have a 9.56% higher bounce rate than desktop visitors. Why is this? Because most sites do not accommodate mobile users with an phone-friendly navigation interface. (see research here.)
